About Ian
Like about 95% of the accountants I know, I did not originally set out to become an accountant.
I came to the profession from the world of financial planning, where I began to see how important good advice can be to a business owner and how difficult that advice can sometimes be to access. That experience helped shape a belief I still hold today: business owners should be able to receive practical advice and meaningful support, regardless of the size of their business.
I have now been a CPA, CA for more than 20 years. During that time, I have had the opportunity to work with businesses in many different industries and to become involved in a wide range of accounting, tax, assurance, and business advisory matters.
That broad experience has made me a generalist by nature. It allows me to look at a business from several different angles and help clients connect the accounting and tax details to the bigger picture. For many of my clients, I also serve as an unofficial CFO or controller, helping them understand what their numbers are telling them and how that information can support better business decisions.
Over the past 20 years, I have built a strong network of professionals whose expertise I trust. When a matter requires specialized knowledge, I can bring the right people to the table while remaining involved to help ensure the advice supports what the client is trying to accomplish.
Accounting is ultimately about more than numbers. It is about people, relationships, and understanding what matters to the person behind the business. That is the approach I bring to every client relationship. I want clients to feel comfortable asking questions, to understand the advice they receive, and to know they have someone they can call when they need help working through a decision.
At the end of the day, there are plenty of people who can give you a piece of paper with some numbers on it and file a tax return. If you are looking for practical advice, ongoing support, and an accountant who takes the time to understand you and your business, that is the experience I aim to provide.
